Free Speech, parties and events

Stretch your budget, by turning a play into an entire evening of entertainment. These free events at Berkeley Rep make it all possible.

free speech

We like theatre that inspires talk. With these and other enrichment programs, we invite you to do just that.

Liner notes

Delivered by email to your inbox the week before your performance, our popular pre-show liner notes are filled with insights about the play.

Pre-show presentations

Meet us in the Theatre an hour before your Tuesday or Thursday 8pm performance for an engrossing 30-minute presentation. Choose a Tuesday 8pm subscription series: B1, C1, D1, E1 or F1; or a Thursday 8pm subscription series: B3, C3, D3, E3 or F3.

Post-show discussions

Stick around after the performance for a lively Q & A with our artists. Choose series F1 (Tuesday 8pm), D3 (Thursday 8pm) or F4 (Friday 8pm). If you’re selecting specific dates for your multi-play package, the following performances include a post-show discussion.

  • Rita Moreno: September 22 and 27, October 7

Backstage blog

Sneak backstage with us! Berkeley Rep staff and cast update the blog regularly with the inside scoop on what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s a forum for you to ask questions and engage the actors, crew and fellow theatre-goers in conversation about the shows you’ve enjoyed at the Theatre. Join the conversation.

free parties and events

night/OUT

Berkeley Rep’s popular series for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered theatre fans includes a fabulous post-show party with the cast which includes music, dancing, free beverages and fine food from local restaurants. Choose the 7-play Full Season in series B3 (Thursday 8pm) to be included.

  • Rita Moreno: Life Without Makeup: September 9 (Friday 8pm) *
  • The Wild Bride: December 3 (Saturday 8pm) *
  • A Doctor in Spite of Himself: February 16 (Thursday 8pm)

* This year, in order to fit all our exciting programs into the season, we had to schedule two night/OUT events outside of the B3 series. In order to make sure you attend all three events, we’ll ask you to exchange your tickets for Rita Moreno: Life without Makeup and The Wild Bride.

Tastings

Whet your palate for an evening of theatre! Free gourmet tastings occur one hour before most Friday 8pm, Saturday 8pm and Sunday 7pm performances. Choose series B4, C4, D4, E4 or F4 for Friday 8pm; B5, C5, D5, E5 or F5 for Saturday 8pm; or B6, C6, D6, E6 or F6 for Sunday 7pm.

We reserve the right to change prices, plays and dates in order to bring you extraordinary theatre.

“The subscribers are dazzling. They’re so smart. They’ve come to expect the unexpected in a way that makes them ideal.”
